Mama Hef

I also grew up in Orange County, just a couple of miles away from Bob.  We actually went to the same middle school together, but didn't know each other.  I played tons of softball all through school.  I was a catcher, and have the crappiest knees in the world to show for it.  In school I was not nearly as bright as Bob.  In fact, I totally tried to get him to help me study for chemistry and spanish tests.  It wasn't until I had my first (of 3) knee blow outs that I discovered what a totally sweet stud he was, he ditched a party to come hang out with me while I recovered from surgery.  What a cutie.

We did go on to separate colleges, thankfully only a 2 hour drive apart, so we could see each other most weekends.  I met my best friend Dre-Day in college and we had several fun nights going to see the Gauchos play on the road.  While Bob finished his last year at UCSB, Dre & I did our teaching credential thing.  Bob and I got hitched when school was all finished up and headed east to Boston.

I spent a little over 5 years working at a middle school in Dorchester, where I met some really cool friends (and friends of friends) that I miss a ton.  I did pick up several first hand tips on "How Not To Parent" while I taught.  However, I was anxious to get back to the west coast and start a family.

(side note:  You may notice I totally can't spell and have very poor use of grammar, tense, and punctuation.  Yes, I did mold young minds, but IN SCIENCE.  You know what freaks scientists are!)

I have to say that motherhood is the coolest thing I have ever known.  When I was a kid I was a total water baby, my parents tell stories of how I would swim in the backyard pool in November with my lips blue trying to coax them in because "the water is fine."  I spent most of my time in the pool trying to figure out how I could stay under longer (ok, so I was totally obsessed with mermaids and thought there might be some way I could be one) so discovering scuba diving was like a dream.  But being a mom is a gazillion times cooler.  I had my daughter Laura June in December 2004, and my life hasn't been the same since.  It has been SO AWESOME!

Recently (last couple of months) I have discovered this "Mommy Blogging" thing and have gotten totally sucked in.  I don't really know if that is the direction this site will go in, I don't know enough of the lingo to know what the crap I'm doing.  I just figured this might be a cool way for all the folks to see what is up with us without me having to send an email with huge attachments.  Whatever.
